Launching with Qantas in 2019 for the arrival of the history making refurbished A380 has been record making for us at LaGaia. We take pride in the partnerships we have with our Spa’s, Resorts and Hotels, and to now add the most recognised and respected brand in the world, is an amazing experience and achievement.
Our First-Spa’s will feature signature treatments design for the traveller. We’ve partnered with Qantas to deliver a range of treatments that replenish, revitalise and refresh travellers before, during and after their journey. We understand the stress that travel, jet-lag and pressurised environments place on your skin. Our LaGaia Unedited range is a first-class menu of Australian, sustainable and active infusions that will balance and restore your skin and body so that you arrive looking and feeling like you have just stepped out of a spa rather than off a flight.
Stress also increases the acidity in the body, making an pH imbalance in your whole system. This can potentially throw out your digestive system and sleeping patterns.
"pH Balance – the body needs a specific balance of acid-alkaline levels, referred to as a “pH” balance; this is the amount of acids and non-acids that are found in your body’s fluids, i.e. blood, saliva, urine, and tissues. This ratio of acids to non-acids determines your own internal pH levels. The optimum pH balance for the body is slightly alkaline, however, this optimum balance is significantly disturbed by stress.
4 things you can do today, to help with stressed skin
Grooming is very important - respecting you're uniform; wearing it correctly and taking care of it. The uniform in the beauty world is not only clothing, it's also your skin. Taking care of these elements reflects on your professionalism and the business you're working in. Another factor that affects your appearance is; 'loving what you do and what service you deliver'. Do you value your everyday happiness? I'm going to guess yes! If you are happy, you will naturally radiate, the guest will sense this. They will gain a subconscious respect for you once they see you taking care of your visual appearance, genuinely loving and taking interest in what you do. The old saying, 'first impressions last' - is true, looking professional and behaving as such is paramount. If you put yourself in the clients place, would you take a therapist seriously and value their professional opinion on treatments and product recommendations if the latter wasn't tended too? We know this is a world where a lot of high level business people have swapped 3 piece suits for kicks and jeans however, those people aren't delivering scientific ingredients into the skin.
3. Consultation/ Product Introduction
This phase is so important in the client journey. Understanding and repeating their skin concerns / what they want to achieve through treatment, is exactly what they are paying for. They want to achieve results and it's our job to deliver them. This is done through discussion and asking key questions about what they are currently using, their routine and offering suggestions to improve what they are doing and what products might help. They might respond with answers like; 'I already use a similar product' - our response could be; perhaps a simple tweak in how they are using that particular product; time of day, amount used, frequency. Or perhaps it's not the right formulation for their skin if they aren't achieving the results they desire. Ultimately we want to provide the best service we can, and this doesn't mean a new product prescription is always required. What is absolutely required is product and skin knowledge, ensuring you are educating yourself consistently will help your client and your clients loyalty.
Our favourite part. This is the time for silence, while they are there to achieve results, it's time for them to relax also. We always recommend a 'hush' rule during treatment after 2nd cleanse. 1st cleanse is where you reaffirm your clients concerns, assessing the skin once it is clean and make up free, assuring them you are focussing on providing them with 'their' specified needs. After this, it's time for quiet, rest and trust. We also believe in the no disconnection rule, this means that you always remain in contact with the guest, if you must release, create a ritual movement, do not just stop abruptly and disconnect from client. Same goes for the reconnection. To regain connection, touch at a non invasive point, preventing them from awakening from a relaxed start and jumping off the bed from being startled. Try reconnecting from points like; shoulders, elbows, side of leg or ankle. Another tip: always learn from those that have higher/different skills than you, ask other therapists their techniques, this will only add to the beautiful treatment potential you deliver.
pH Cleanse contains no foaming or soap agents, just a beautiful combination of botanicals and oils in a cream base which work to help remove excess oils, dirt or makeup when emulsified over the skin. It also doubles as a wonderfully calming face moisturiser for all skin types, especially the most sensitive. When using this product as a moisturiser, blend in your favourite boosting serum like a little vitamin C serum, giving the skin that little extra antioxidant and UV protection during the day.
Step 1: pH Cleanse, emulsify with water, warm face cloth removal
Step 2: pH Cleanse + Vitamin C Serum
Crystal healing can be traced back to some 6,000 years ago to the Sumerians of Mesopotamia. From there it found its way into the cultures of ancient Egypt and religions like Buddhism and Hinduism, where people began placing certain crystals on their bodies for their supposed health benefits. A carnelian crystal (a reddish gem) is said to help female reproduction, while clear quartz (white or ice like gem) is believed by some to increase energy, and rose quartz (pink gem) boosts creativity.
(To be clear: While certain crystals are believed to promote health, there is zero scientific evidence that has validated this. Crystal elixirs may be good for some people's minds, but they're not a substitute for professional care.)
2 months storage of chives
"After 2 months, the visible quality change was recorded with photographs, and the difference in smell determined in a blind test with volunteers. The illustration shows clearly that the chive samples that were exposed to the sun have bleached in brown and white glass. As photographed in this illustration, the sample stored in MIRON violet glass shows no color change. The smell of the chives stored in MIRON violet glass was also clearly stronger and fresher."

Kristen's hotel bathroom.
Freshly cleansed skin, soft robes and towels peppered with the essentials of skincare - meooowwwww! When there’s a lot going on in life, Kristen finds her skin can kick-the-bucket, especially when travelling. As we know, your internal health radiates externally - one of the major points she trains, as lead product trainer (among other things) at LaGaia (LUE). Skin will only look as good as you care for yourself. If we all took 5 minutes (that's seriously all) and took care of our skin, a lot of basic skin concerns would be managed. However, for many of us this just isn't a considered part of our routine.
How to prevent a rebellious dermis?
Travelling is stressful on the body and therefore stressful on your skin, so while Kristen manages travelling well, she knows that travelling still has dehydrating and stressful effects on her skin. Prevention tactic: those 5 P's babies! (Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Pores) Properly cared for with uber hydrating rituals for morning and night is just what the Doctor orders. Dr. Jean Laing, founder of LaGaia stresses that hydration is key to long lasting youthful skin - scientific fact.
Kristen's daily routine is simple; cleanse, nourish, work - cleanse, nourish, sleep - REPEAT! (Maybe throw a mask in there every now and then.)
A few dont's;
1) Don't forget to spend time on your skin before your trip, skin prep and pre-hydration is very important.
2) Don't rely on the last minute, 's#*t I forgot' product substitutes, be mindful when you pack. (At least do a little research before heading out to get the best possible substitute.)
3) Don't forget to pack at least 1 hydrating mask, this will be a life saver if you need it.
What's in her skin arsenal?
1) A balancing, non stripping cleanser + face cloth
2) At least one product containing AHA's : Kristen usually sleeps in her AHA refine (tip for skins not sensitive)
3) Vitamin A serum: duhhhh, I don't mean to be rude, just trust me and hop on board this train. Accelerate skin renewal, 100%.
4) SPF - the max Kristen wears is an SPF 30 (TIP: the higher the SPF rating, the more chemicals)
If she has nothing else with her, she has these 4 items (and a spare pare of knickers, cause you just never know!). They are tested and true for her skin, they ensure that Kristen skin is on point consistently! Very important since she travels to stand up in front of rooms filled with skin experts to discuss why her skincare range is one of the best formulated brands on the market. Putting her best face forward is a no-brainer, along with her shameless product confidence.
Honestly, lets be shameless! LUE utilises the latest scientifically proven ingredients, a ridiculous amount of mother natures best; botanicals, vitamins and minerals, oh my! LUE also formulates with pH balance, making it appropriate for all skin types, gender and ages, bringing your skin back to its desired equilibrium. Mic drop...
What is a girls best friend; happy, healthy skin! Although diamonds are still beloved too.
Who knew we SPFs were full of sshhhhh - here it is 'sun care for dummies', what experts haven't told you.
SPF protection has been dubbed the #1 premature ageing defence.
Yet how many of us know what the SPF acronym stands for? If you're anything like me, the words excitedly burst out of your mouth, eager to share this important knowledge! A big high five for those that blurted it out at their screen, and for those that don't know what SPF stands for ....'Sun Protection Factor'.
What does this mean...?
There is a lot of misunderstanding about the true difference between SPF10, SPF15, SPF30, SPF50 etcetera etcetera... is. The SPF rating on sun care represents the amount of time that you are protected against harmful UVA and UVB rays and once you past SPF30 the number increase is also reflective of the increase in chemicals needed to attain a longer duration of protection.
Want to live a low-tox life? Follow these must-know & do’s when it comes to a number the 1 summer product and you are well on your way to feeling good and looking good, and you know what they say! When your feeling good, and looking good you get results!
Australians have been educated about the role UV-rays since kids however many of us still don't fully understand what how to protect ourselves other than 'Slip Slop Slap'.
UVs fast-track skin-ageing and increase chances of skin cancer, FACT.
Ensuring your SPF protects you with a maximum UVA filter is extremely important, particularly from an ageing point of view as these rays penetrate deeper into the skin, aggressively penetrating glass, folding around walls and are as strong on a cloudy day as they are on a sunny day. They’re the main cause of patchiness, spider veins, enlargement of blood vessels, increased darkening as well as collagen and elastin damage. While UVB rays are those that cause burning. Think of it like that UVA – Aggressive Ageing, UVB – Burning. Your SPF should protect you from both, so look out for the symbols UVA/UVB or the words ‘Broad Spectrum’ when choosing a product.
Physical vs chemical
Physical filters (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) sits on the surface of the skin deflecting rays like a mirror, while chemical filters (everything else), absorb the UV energy to prevent it from penetrating the skin. Chemical formulations are generally lighter and invisible, however most experts still recommend physical SPF as it offers both UVA and UVB protection and doesn't irritate sensitive skin.
Physical filters reflect UVs like a mirror while chemical filters transform UV-rays into heat, increasing likeliness of skin redness and hyper-sensitivity. source: colorescience.com
It is recommended to wear sunscreen between SPF15 and SFF30 to give the correct level of protection. Anything below an SPF15 gives very little protection. As SPF30 blocks 97% of UVs and SPF50 98%, it is often asked whether anything higher than SPF30 is worth the greater level of sunscreen chemicals. Generally, it’s not essential unless you have a specific condition where SPF50/60 is recommended (e.g. hyper-pigmentation) but most skin cancer charities state SPF30 applied correctly and regularly is sufficient and limits the concentration of sunscreen chemicals the skin is exposed to, particularly sensitive skins and children.
This is where sun smarts come into play!
The higher you go above SPF30 usually means the more nasty chemicals and toxic ingredients there are in a formula to get that longer protection time. Sun care that has an SPF40 rating and over will contain considerably more synthetics and nasties in the formula to allow you to not apply as frequently.
Why not apply an SPF30 more frequently with considerably less toxic ingredients than applying an SFP50 less frequently with considerably more toxic ingredients?
Recently Hawaii banned all sun care products that contain; oxybenzone (alias benzophenone-3), methyl paraben, PABA, various camphors, and octocrylene. These ingredients constitute a threat to aquatic and marine environments, lethally impacting coral reefs and act as hormone disruptors on marine creatures. This also directly affects human health also, understanding how these effect other creatures, imagine how these might be affecting us too.
SPF30 by People4Ocean and LaGaia UNEDITED is now available! We look forward to sharing our 3 year formulation project with you. It has exceeded our expectations; 100% natural, marine, ocean and people friendly sun care that is 3hrs water resistant and healthy for the whole family, we couldn't be more proud of our creation.
After sun care....necessary?
After sun care is the next step to preventative ageing. Its purpose - to calm, cool and alleviate burn symptoms while conditioning the skin aiding in repair and replenishment of what the sun has depleted.
Why not use an everyday moisturiser? These products are not designed with the focused cooling and anti inflammatory ingredients thats purpose are to remove heat from the dermis, essential in the repair process. These products expedite your skin returning to a natural sun kissed glow - not a peeling, leathery mess like we often see in veteran sun skin.
Be unedited, be sun smart.

pH is a scientific fact of skin. pH is what directly affects visible change in skin appearance and wellness.
Much like dating, we must trial skincare to find the right fit - depending on gender and genetics, product selection will be guided by desired results.
Lesson 1: skin’s natural pH level is between 4.5-6 on the pH scale (acidic).
The pH scale has a range of 0-14. 0 can be compared to battery acid, 7 is neutral, and 14 is much like an oven cleaner, the most alkaline or basic of the scale. Skin prefers to be acidic, especially the ‘acid mantle’, the outer most layer of skin acts as the first line of defence against bacteria and free radicals.
This layer is what we must protect and lots of skincare products strip this these 'bouncers', exposing skin to environmental damage. Does smooth, glowing, ‘predictable’ skin sound indescribably life changing! Imagine, no wild breakouts or inflammation, a decision like pH balanced skincare and some small lifestyle changes could make all the difference. There are many variable environmental factors that can also affect pH, however using skincare that protects pH and doesn’t strip is an easy warm hug for your skin.
Soap: avoid cleansers with soap or stripping agents. Soap is alkaline and therefore, too basic for skin. This will cause dehydration, unstable cell structure and dull a skin tone.
Tip: Try our pH Cleanser, soap free, pH level of 5.5 (sweet spot), aroma free, toxin free, full of soothing botanicals ++ (let’s FACE it, this product kind of product is essential). Using different products with different aroma profiles is like going to the fragrance counter and spraying every blend onto your skin (dating note: don't walk around smelling like the perfume counter threw up on you). The olfactory system is sensitive and can be aggravated, your skin can be even more sensitive, so when it comes to fragrance, skip it where you can in face care.
Essential Oils / Synthetic Fragrance: Our philosophy for formulation particularly when it comes to aroma is; 'simple is best' and 'blend with natural and organic'. We avoid synthetics however many ‘natural’ products formulate with synthetics particularly scents, this can confuse and aggravate skin, creating reactions in sensitive skin types. As the skin is a thinking organ, it also can inhibit product absorption or cause superficial dermal damage. No small factor in skincare or premature ageing.
Vitamins / Serums: Yes, yes yes! Vitamin A and Vitamin C are excellent for cellular protection which is truly essential for longevity in youthful looking skin and preventative premature ageing. Sodium Hyaluronate is another excellent cellular hydrator for plump dewy complexions. This is the gentleman that opens the door for you or get you coffee in bed 'just cause'.
Holistic: drink water, eat a variety of fruit and vegetables, if its green its good! Don’t be fooled by juice cleanses, they can often cause breakouts due to the high concentration in natural sugars. Minimise refined sugars and process foods. Your body is your temple, inner health reflects outwards.
So! We hope this quick scoop on what to look for in some skincare products will give you clarity around what to buy or at least, what questions to ask. Don’t be fooled by the sparkling surfaces and beautiful sales people, they are there to sell. Yes, they will recommend to the best of their ability however sometimes, they simply don’t have enough information as most aren’t beauty therapists or skin specialists - and lets be honest, its a hard task to remember every ingredient of every product in a store.
Window shop, research, ask the right questions and be prepared to test and trial. There is no one perfect fit for everyone in terms of skincare combinations - otherwise skincare wouldn't be a billion dollar business.
Not only is blue a naturally soothing and safe colour, its also the natural mineral colour of the precious gem Lapis Lazuli. This gem and its deep, celestial blue hue is what naturally colours our Blue Stone cream. As a symbol of honour, gods and power, spirit and vision, this stone universally represents as a symbol for wisdom and truth.
We ground this stone to a fine powder to blend and intrinsically energise our cream, not only for its mineral rich benefits - for its imbued energetic power. In ancient Persia and pre-Columbian America, Lapis Lazuli was a symbol of the starry night, and a favourite stone of the Islamic Orient for protection from the evil eye.
Skincare IMPORTANCE: it's one of the highest sources of silica! + other trace minerals essential for healthy skin. Don't worry, you won't turn Avatar blue with this formula -- just resist a re-purchase once you've tired it!
‘Speak your beauty truth’, the mantra of this product. Enjoy Blue Stone Creams’ natural/organic and blue energised formula.
